What it is
Reading Bingo is a reading incentive program designed to motivate students to read a variety of books.
How it works
Each time the student reads a book in one of the categories, write the title of the book in that space. When the entire card is filled out, have a parent or guardian sign the bottom and return the card to the library. Each time the student completes a card, he/she will receive a charm on morning announcements. If a student completes all six levels, he/she will receive a t-shirt and gold medal on morning announcements. Completed cards will be kept in the library.
Why are there specific reading categories on the card?
Listing reading categories serves two purposes: it encourages students to read books about a wide variety of topics and exposes them to different genres, such as biographies, fairy tales, mysteries, poetry, etc.
Other important information
- Any book read by or to the student before the March deadline will count.
- You may read the books in any order and choose any titles that fit the categories. Each book counts only once. The books can come from any source (WLES library, public library, book fair, friends, home, etc.) and do not have to come from the WLES library.
- The cards should be signed when they are completely filled out (before they are turned in to the library). Please do not sign cards until all the spaces on the card are completely filled in.
- Each grade will have different book categories on their Bingo cards. There are six levels of cards (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). You may not skip levels. Each new Bingo card features different book choices.
- The program ends the week after Spring Break every year.
- Your card must be completely full and contain a parent or guardian signature before you can turn it in. Partially completed cards will not count.
- Turn in your card to the library.
